Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute was established in 1990 as a branch campus of Mukogawa Women’s University in Nishinomiya, Japan. An average of 200 students arrive each term to study in the Intensive English Language program for 14 weeks. In the fall, there are three programs: Jr. College, Extension, and Education. Jr. College and Extension students are English-language majors. Extension students are returning Spring term students, back for even more intensive English training. Education majors have some English background, but are mainly concerned with improving English skills and studying about the American education system. Spring term consists of University level students, majoring in English language.
In 1994, MFWI built a new library on campus to support the school’s specialized curriculum. Special emphasis is placed on famous Americans, American history (especially Pilgrims, colonial times, the Revolutionary War, American Western movement, Lewis & Clark, pioneers, etc.), multiculturalism, American literature and current issues.
