About Us

The Japanese Cultural Center serves as a  program source, museum and resource center with the express purpose of reaching regional and international audiences, young and old, with information on Japanese culture to promote global friendship and peace.

Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute (MFWI) and the Japanese Cultural Center (JCC), located on the beautiful 80-acre historic Fort Wright in Spokane, WA are non-profit educational organizations dedicated to mutual understanding between U.S. and Japan.  Founded in 1990, MFWI is the branch school of Mukogawa Women’s University in Nishinomiya, Japan, Spokane’s Sister City.  MFWI offers intensive, English language and culture experiences for Mukogawa Women’s University students.

Mukogawa Gakuin in Japan, and in Spokane JCC and MFWI, coordinate a Friendship Doll Program inspired by a doll exchange begun in 1927 by American, Sidney L. Gulick.  Today Japanese doll ambassadors are in all 50 states and Washington D.C. as permanent gifts of friendship.  The Japanese doll ambassadors, associated educational materials, lesson plans and artifacts reach thousands of children and educators each year. Contact the JCC to recommend a recipient.
